Smart Lunches’ Snow Day Policy

Yesterday’s forecast: Snow.

Today’s forecast: More snow.

And tomorrow? Still Snow.

The first snow brings people together while time seems to stands still.  Family members lazily meander the streets and children trudge sleds and chase snowballs.  No one seems to be in a rush to travel, shovel, or salt his or her sidewalks.  We seem to soak in the magic of it all.

But then it snows again.  And again.  And yet again.  By this time, the thrilling delight of snow has faded and is viewed only as the unnecessary freezing of water and open potholes.

When Smart Lunches learns of a snow day or school cancellations, the office is full of excitement and a bit of chaos.  We are showered with customer cancellations, school requests, governor’s memos, traffic delays and weather forecasts.

Our snow day policy is two-fold:  When we find out a school is closed, we’ll send you an email to let you know that your meal has been credited by 50%.  The reason we only credit half the cost of your meal is because with less than two days’ notice, the local caterer who prepares your child’s lunches will have already sourced the day’s food, and may have already started lunch preparations.

We want to be as fair as possible.  Our school closing credit policy is designed to be impartial both to you and to the local small business that is the cornerstone of our ability to serve our families well.

Although the winter might seem long, we want to encourage you all to stay strong – Spring is coming!
